Alexis Basantis

Lead Human Centered Design Strategist


Alexis Basantis is a Human-Centered Design Strategist at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL). In her role, she utilizes human factors engineering and user-centered design principles to better integrate the human perspective into the design and development of complex technical landscapes. She believes that empathy, humility, and storytelling are integral skills for developing innovative and impactful user-focused solutions.

To pursue her interest in the intersection between users and technology, Alexis attended Virginia Tech and received her Masters of Science in Biomedical Engineering. Her graduate school research and thesis focused on connected and automated vehicles, specifically human factors and usability of autonomous passenger vehicles. Alexis also has a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rowan University.
